CONDUCT THE FOLLOWING EXPERIMENT AT HOME
AIM: To determine which method of preservation works most effectively on different varieties of food.
MATERIALS:
- 4 hard boiled eggs
- 4 slices of bread
- 4 small broccoli cuttings (of equal portions)
- 4 pieces of apple (of equal portions)
- salt
- refrigerator
- freezer
- clear plastic zip lock bags
PROCEDURE:
1. Salt cure 1 boiled egg, a slice of bread, and a piece of apple and broccoli, place into separate bags and leave on bench.
2. Place a piece of each food in separate bags and place into refrigerator
3. Complete step 2 again only placing the foods in the freezer
4. Complete step 2 again only leaving foods on the bench, this is your control group.
5. Check data every 3 days until day 21, recording data and making and visual observations.
6. Place this data into a graph and share your results in class.
